Finding Your Perfect Work: The New Career Guide to Making a Living, Creating a Life

As a business consultant for home based business start-ups and self-employment I've found "Finding Your Perfect Work" a most valuable tool. In reading it I found that it goes in-depth into self-exploration which is something a lot of people need to do before attempting to start a business. I also found this book to be an asset in using "real" people as examples. I think we all want to hear about the person who's made it the hard way once in a while. It makes the journey for us that much more realistic. The way the book was divided up into areas such as the Directory of Self-Employment Careers by Personal Style is very helpful and easy to use. When using this book in a workshop, I found that my clients really had to "work" at finding out what they're best suited for...and they all agreed it was worth going through that work. The work sheets provide not only an area for people to get the thought process moving but I feel it also makes them more accountable for what they are doing. I've discovered this book is also a valuable resource for my business along with being a tool in which I can expand and improve my own business. I highly recommend this book to all who are considering going into business for themselves.

Successful Independent Consulting: Turn Your Career Experience into a Consulting Business

This is an excellent guide for anyone new to starting independent consulting and a good refresher to established consultants. After going through several similar books, this one, by far, is the best written, most helpful of the lot. He guides you through basic and more advanced steps in making your idea a reality in a clear, concise, and "user friendly" way. His approach is realistic and not stuck in the mundane as so many other "start your own business" books seem to be. While another book insults your intelligence by emphasizing the importance of street lighting for your new office (no kidding!) or devotes boring paragraphs on the evolution of their own business card logos, this author guides the novice entrepreneur effectively and intelligently from concept to practice. This book is highly recommended for professionals who do not have a background in business and who find "business speak" confusing and want a cogent initial guide. So if you are thinking of expanding your career path through independent consulting, and if you think "starship" when someone says "Enterprise," then you need this book to start thinking clearly about your new endeavor.

Telecommuting Success: A Practical Guide for Staying in the Loop While Working Away from the Office

I recently reviewed a number of books on telecommuting and distance collaboration for a research center (...) and Dziak's book was the best I found on telecommuting.
While some other books dwell too much on details of home office setup (which this book does cover thoroughly in ch 4) Dziak is by far the most insightful about the real challenges of telecommuting, which are social issues of staying in touch. The book gives prescriptive advice in easily-digestable forms. Dziak is quite fond of top-10 lists, but manages to pack a lot of good content into this somewhat gimmicky format. My most-reference part of the book was his '10 Ways to stay on the corporate radar screen' (p. 181).

Home Based Jobs and Income Opportunities: The Bravada Directory

After I had my boys, my life really changed. While I was indeed successful in my career, all of a sudden my family became the center of my life. I didn't really dread going back to work, but I still wanted to find a way to see my children grow up. About this time I came across this book. In it I found many companies ready to pay me for work at home. I worked with a few of them and the experiences I had were very empowering. Soon I may start earning as much from my home as I would back in the office. It feels so much better knowing that i will be there when my boys loose their first teeth, write their first words, and go on their first dates.

Network Marketing

Your First Year in Network Marketing: Overcome Your Fears, Experience Success, and Achieve Your Dreams!

The reason many people fail at Network Marketing is actually very simple. It's a twofold problem. Number one, they have not received an adequate education in the subject matter from a qualified mentor, and number two, they don't follow what is taught to them. Mark goes over all of the potential pitfalls that you will come across in your fist year of Network Marketing. Whether it's rejection from friends and family, time traps managing your downline, problems maintaining enthusiasm, the Scatter Bomb(distractions that keep you from staying focused), problems that arise during meetings, and finally recruiting and training your own people (instead of having someone else doing it for you). This book is the next best thing to having Mark Yarnell sponsor you! If you're new to this business, this book is a must.

Dare to Dream and Work to Win

This is, hands down, one of the best books I have read on Network Marketing. If you have never encountered MLM or perhaps have had a "bad" experience in MLM or have some preconceived negative notion about MLM, then read this book and it will help clear up the "bad" and confusion.
Dr. Barrett had spent years researching the different MLM systems and the people who work them (both successful and those who have been unsuccessful) and compiled his final research in this book.

Dr. Barrett describes how those who have been successful in MLM gained that success, what they did "right" to be successful and describes it in great detail in part one. In part two, he moves into the psychology of failure, doubt, etc. and how to overcome some of these "obstacles" in order to be successful in MLM. Finally, in part three, Dr. Barrett discusses the various approaches used to help others be successful - good leadership skills. Teach, lead and coach is the right track and Barrett details this. Putting others first is the principle behind Dr. Barrett's leadership method.

This is a great book for those who are considering a Network Business. In fact, this is a great book for those who are considering any type of business because what is taught in these pages is practiced by every major chain corporation in the world.

Turning Goals into Results: The Power of Catalytic Mechanisms (HBR OnPoint Enhanced Edition)

There are already lots of books out there about HTML and basic web design, and this book won't teach you how to write code or adjust the RGB settings of your graphic files. The Big Red Fez is the book to read after you have learned the technical nuts-and-bolts (or hired them out to someone else) and you are ready to focus on making your site more profitable.

The book's methodology is to examine various real ecommerce sites, and point out their flaws and strong points. While this may sound simple, Godin's insights are extremely perceptive. Everyone who has ever planned or built a commercial website will recognize at least one of their own mistakes in the Big Red Fez.

Most of all, I like the practical tone of this book. It was written in the aftermath of the Internet bubble. Most of us inevitably absorbed some of the overblown pretenses of the Internet boom years (ex: a focus on flashy multimedia content). The Big Red Fez is therefore a good debriefing for the entrepreneurs and marketing execs who are ready to move forward into the "New" New Economy.

The New Professionals: The Rise of Network Marketing As the Next Major Profession

If your considering Network Marketing as a career move then this should be your first text book for learning what you need to know first about the business. I have also attended Dr. Charles King's Networking Marketing Certification course at the University of Illinois @ Chicago with equal enthusiasm. If you take anything from this review, understand that this book was written by a Harvard Grad and tenured Professor at UIC who spent much time researching the business. It is a great book that is required reading especially if you're new to the business of Network Marketing.

Last of all, don't listen to fools who scoff at this book or the Industry, unless of course you wish to remain a slave to your employer and retire a slave to the Governments program.

Creating Personal Success

Self Matters: Creating Your Life from the Inside Out

Phillip C. McGraw's latest book tops them all. Self Matters helps get to the core of what's keeping you from a fulfilling, happy life. His tell it like it is style helped me take a good hard look at myself and how I could begin the healing. I have been going through a rough time in my life and Self Matters has helped me to stop feeling sorry for myself and start feeling good about what is good in my life. For the first time in a long while things don't look so bad.

When I'm working at my computer I use Neurosync behavior modification software that Dr. Phil mentioned on Opra. I'm impressed that their are products like this and books like Dr. Phil has written that can really make a difference and change your life. This book is money well spent.

Building Wealth

Lower Your Taxes - Big Time! : Wealth-Building, Tax Reduction Secrets from an IRS Insider

This is the only simple and easy to understand Tax Strategy Planning book in America. Sandy has taken a very dry subject and brought it to life in a way that teaches and entertains at the same time. Sandy also backs up all of his strategies with laws, court cases, IRS rulling, etc. This is a must read for ANYONE who is a business owner, self-employed, sub contractor, home based business owner etc. We feel that this information is so vital that we give this book to all of our clients. Sandy is helping Americans keep more of what they make, and teaching people to use the strategies of the rich. I recommend this book to anyone who is a business owner.
